George Wise is a native Arkansan, born in Batesville, Arkansas. He is married to Barbara Gilbert-Wise and has two sons, Charles and Dalton. He received a B.A. from the University of Arkansas in 1975 and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas in 1978.

In 2016, George was awarded the Roxanne Wilson Advocacy Award. It is given to members whose love of the law, the legal profession, and advancement of advocacy is reflective of those same qualities of the late Roxanne Wilson, for whom the award is named. George was selected as the 2005 Outstanding Trial Lawyer by the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association. George was President of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association in 2014 to 2015. He is currently the Chair of Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association’s Publications Committee which publishes “The ATLA Docket,” an award winning quarterly publication of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association, and also serves on Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association’s Amicus Curiae Committee and Legislation Committee. He has been honored by the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association with the President’s Award four times. He is also a Sustaining Member of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) and is a member of AAJ’s Birth Trauma Litigation Group and Medical Negligence Information Exchange Group. George is a State Delegate from Arkansas in AAJ. Mr. Wise has been selected as a Mid-South Super Lawyer in Medical Malpractice from 2012 to 2018, which includes the top 5% of all attorneys in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. He is also a member of the Arkansas Bar Association, the Pulaski County Bar Association, Public Justice, and the American Association for Justice. In 2017, Mr. Wise was named to The Best Lawyers in America List. Mr. Wise was also awarded “Top Rated Medical Malpractice Attorney in Little Rock, AR” by Super Lawyers for 2021. George Wise is being recognized in the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Beginning in law school, George recognized the importance of protecting individual rights under the Arkansas and United States Constitutions. About two centuries ago, Thomas Jefferson said, “I consider Trial by Jury as the only anchor yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution.” George stands by this and believes that the right to a jury trial is the only way to protect regular folks from the tyranny of special interest groups and powerful corporations. During the last 20 years, George has worked to protect the right to a jury trial through his advocacy at the Arkansas Legislature. His efforts to educate the public and his fellow attorneys through his many publications on the importance of the right to a jury trial have been a passion project for George. Many of those publications can be found on our website. George believes that it is important to remember what is written in our country’s Declaration of Independence, which sets out the grievances against a tyrannical British government. “The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world. …For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury.” In other words, restricting the right to a jury trial is a direct path to a tyrannical society.

Many of his colleagues called George a “pure Plaintiff’s lawyer.” This is a compliment he gladly accepts. Fighting to protect the Constitution from limitations imposed by special interests and fighting for the rights of regular folks is a principal all lawyers should follow. George has never, and will never, represent special interest groups over the rights of regular Arkansans.

Mr. Wise has a special interest in studying the myths and false information used to promote so-called “tort reform.” When the myths are separated from the facts, damage caps and other forms of tort restrictions are never about limiting frivolous lawsuits. Damage caps, which limit and suppress legitimate medical malpractice lawsuits, benefit insurers. One size fits all damage caps disproportionately impact the elderly, women, and families with infants, because senior citizens, stay at home mothers, and children’s economic damages are frequently limited, or difficult to estimate. In his free time, George is a member of the Arkansas Canoe Club, the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society, and is an admitted “tree hugger.”
