Traffic Accident Leads to Fatality in Jonesboro, Arkansas

Police have identified the victims in a deadly two-vehicle crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Craighead County.


Arkansas State Police said the crash happened at 3:34 p.m. at the intersection of Highland Drive and Highway 18 at Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. in Jonesboro


According to the fatal crash report, 29-year-old Jose Ramon Garza, of Jonesboro, was driving west in a 2007 Ford Explorer on Highway 18.


As he was turning left onto Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Garza failed to yield to a 2003 Ford F150 driven by 35-year-old Rick McCallie, of Manila, causing the two vehicles to collide.


JPD Public Information Specialist Sally Smith told K8 News that Garza was thrown out of his vehicle during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.


ASP said McCallie was taken to NEA Baptist Hospital for his injuries.


The crash caused the eastbound lane on Highland Drive to be blocked until 5:30 p.m.
